YCP Trip
YCP stands for York College Of Pennsylvania. YCP is a college we went to in March, instead of February, due to the 2 hour delay. Although the first hour or so was boring, because the 2 instructors talked for an hour. To be honest, I was really struggling to stay awake. But after that, it was pretty cool. They showed us around the college, and showed us some really cool stuff. After that, was my favorite part, lunch. For lunch, we had a huge buffet, with some really good food. After we had lunch, we had to go back to school for 4th period. Some of my main takeaways were how the instructors, always had new and interesting projects, like they were talking about making drones for a project. I also really liked their destruction room, they had all kinds of cool tools, to test their projects, and designs, to improve them in some way.
Main Take-Aways
On this trip, I really liked how they have some of their students getting payed for solving problems, and designing objects needed. One student even designed a bike helmet, and tested a 3-D printed version in the wind chamber. Every year they have a contest to build the best bridge, and the one that looks the best, and can survive the most weight is the winner. This just goes back to the form vs. function that always is important. I really like how they encourage each of their kids to be unique, and solve their own problems, teaching independence. I also really like how each year they have more modern projects, like building a drone. This college is really cool, and i'm actually thinking about attending it. Overall I really liked this trip.
